Malaysia as a Holiday Destination

As a holiday destination, Malaysia is a country, situated in South East Asia, of contrasts. It is a land where high-tech buildings in super modern cities with highly developed infrastructure rub shoulders with largely undeveloped areas where roads are little more than farm tracks.

Significant areas are still covered by dense rainforest and travel to some places is still discouraged on safety grounds. Several areas have been developed especially for tourism.

Those areas are, however, exceptions to the norm. Malaysia is, for the most part, a safe and exhilarating place to spend a holiday and there is a strong tourism industry present in many areas.

Kuala Lumpur

The most famous, and very popular, travel destination in Malaysia is the country’s capital, and largest city, Kuala Lumpur which boasts, amongst many other noteworthy things, the world’s tallest building, (at the time of writing but watch this space as there are other in progress).

The Petronas Twin Towers, as it is called, is a truly iconic building and is open to the public. The building is 451 metres high and has 88 floors. There is an observation area, with an awe inspiring “sky bridge” linking the two buildings”, where you can see the breathtaking vista that is cosmopolitan Kuala Lumpur.

It’s worth putting Kuala Lumpur on your holiday itinerary just to visit the Petronas Towers alone, even if you do not visit any of the numerous other attractions that this magnificent metropolis has to offer.

Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago comprising 99 islands, (although some accounts cite 104), many of which are developed for tourism and offer beautiful white sandy beaches and amazingly clear waters.

There is excellent scuba diving to be had there and a selection of impressive waterfalls which can be visited. Langkawi is the administrative centre and is the principal island in the group but several of the others are worth investigating. Langkawi is a duty free island.

Ipoh

Ipoh is a former British colonial city that has developed over the years into a popular place to be visited by tourists from all over the globe. Interesting old buildings blend with modern development and the city is well known as a traveller’s destination for many reasons, not least of which being its superb range of street food outlets.

Melaka

Melaka has the impressive distinction of being a Unesco World Heritage Site and boasts a strong trading history. It is situated not too far from the capital Kuala Lumpur and would be a rewarding addition to any travel schedule.

The river was the main artery of trade for Melaka in its heyday when it was bustling with traders from all around the world. One of the area’s most popular attractions is the river tour which provides a good opportunity to see the grand old buildings that have been preserved from the area’s trading past and line the banks of the river as you cruise along on one of the 45 minute long river tours.

How To Get There And Where To Stay

Flights into Kuala Lumpur’s International Airport (KLIA)is one of the principle ways of travelling to the country. The KL airport has become of southeast Asia's major aviation hubs since beginning operations in 1998. Nowadays, Kuala Lumpur International airport, (KLIA) is capable of handling 35 million passengers every year in addition to over 1.2 million tonnes of cargo traffic.

Obviously, hotels of every kind abound across Malaysia and there are bargains to be had without doubt but for those wanting to stay in pleasant surroundings but without the costs and restrictions of a hotel there is an encouraging growth in a new kind of travel destination – the Homestay.

Homestay holidays are rapidly becoming the method of choice for users who want anything from a single night through to a month or more.
In order to service this exciting new development there is a new kind of travel service starting to emerge. Travel agencies that match those with properties in Malaysia to rent and those who want to visit the country and make use of a homestay in one or more destinations.

If you have a property in an appropriate area of Malaysia then it may be worth considering a listing with such an agency. there are links below to assist you.
